Our TerraDesic Africa project volunteers and I (Project Leader, Steven Bolgiano, Berlin, Maryland, USA) are joined in collaboration with African university faculty from several nations.
The challenge is the loss of healthy soils and healthy diets due to wind erosion caused by the over-harvesting of trees for firewood.
While there are replanting initiatives like Africa’s “Great Green Wall,” the reality is that 75% of the population cuts down trees for firewood, and the solution cannot avoid providing Savanna communities with a viable tool to substitute biogas for wood burning, along with the biodigester’s nutrient-rich fertilizer byproduct, to reestablish productive food gardens.
The TerraDesic Savannas Biodigester costs less than $400 to build one-at-a-time. When assembled in bulk, significantly less. Its simple enough for those families in remote, less educated communities, … they can operate the Savanna system without instrumentations or complicated routines.

We are already forming small groups of faculty scientists across Africa to build and introduce it’s use to the target groups.
We need to provide these groups individually with “Start Up Funding” to be able to provide their home university with the “proof of concept” necessary for the university and/or government agencies to support the project.
